Impatience of the Heart

A failed bowling throw brings Isaac and Edith together, but the attempt to make amends soon transforms into something far more serious. A young soldier of the German army seeks closeness with a woman in a wheelchair whom he has accidentally injured, and finds himself caught in uncertainty.

From guilt emerges affection, from compassion grows dependence - and both become increasingly entangled in a web of self-deception and longing. The more Isaac tries to "heal" Edith, the clearer it becomes how thin the line is between care and paternalism.

Director Lauro Cress updates Stefan Zweig's timeless novel and poses a question that has lost none of its relevance: where lies the boundary between compassion and the desire to become a saviour?
