Declan Welsh & The Decadent West perform at Prague's Café V lese on 15 October at 19:30.
Declan Welsh & the Decadent West (DWDW) is a band from Glasgow - Welsh sings and writes lyrics, joined by Duncan McBride (guitar), Ben Corlett (bass) and Jamie Holmes (drums). They have released 4 EPs and 2 albums, collaborated with Grammy and Gold Award-winning producers, and were nominated for the Scottish Album of the Year award. They sold out tours across the UK and EU, including Glasgow's Barrowland Ballroom, Amsterdam's Paradiso and London's Omeara, and performed on the main stage at TRNSMT, where Welsh used his set to call for an end to the treatment of the Palestinian people.
In 2024, Welsh led a campaign for the land and people he visited in 2016 as part of a cultural exchange. He released the single "Walk a Mile In Gaza" and performed a charity concert where, in collaboration with the union organization Unite Hospitality, he raised over 15,000 dollars to send surgeons to Palestine. He also attended the first Global Activism Conference in South Africa, where he discussed with artists from around the world how art can bring about social, environmental and political change.
The band has performed at Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and TRNSMT festivals (UK), Reeperbahn Festival (Germany), Bet Lahem Live (Palestine) and Oberkampf Festival (France), played their own sold-out concerts and supported The Reytons, Twin Atlantic, Echo and The Bunnymen, Squeeze and The Proclaimers. The magazine Courier called them "the future of Scottish rock music" and Jack Saunders from Radio 1 said: "Nobody can get a mosh pit going like DWDW. I know - I was in one!"
