Public Space by František Skála
A new documentary by Petr Slavík follows František Skála, one of the most versatile Czech artists, on his journey through public space. With humor, gravity, and self-irony, the visual artist, performer, and musician opens a view onto beauty in imperfection, poetry in the ordinary, and the joy of creation as a way of life.
The film weaves together the artist's diaries and his objects in public space - from his first sculpture in the Veltrusy castle park through the wooden Prastánek to the Paradise Garden at Sluňakov. It also captures the creation of the monumental sculpture of the dog Vulpes Gott, from the model to its journey by boat down the Elbe to the opening in Dresden.
Skála's friends appear in the film - the band Třaskavá směs, the brass ensemble Provodovjané, and philosopher Miroslav Petříček. František Skála is also known from Divadlo Sklep, the group Tvrdohlaví, the ensemble Tros Sketos, and M.T.O. Universal.
