Conversations About Everything: František Mikloško
An invitation to irregular discussions about society, the environment, culture, science, education and politics with people who have something to say.
In an informal setting, Ivan Matušek will welcome both well-known and unknown guests and talk with them about their personal lives and the life of the country. The guest at the first conversation about everything will be former politician František Mikloško.
About Host Ivan Matušek
Activist Ivan Matušek has spent many years working in the non-profit sector, addressing social and environmental issues at home and abroad. Years spent travelling and managing projects at national and international levels give him a solid foundation for quality discussions with invited guests.
About Guest František Mikloško
Former chairman of the Slovak National Council, politician and member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, he studied natural sciences at Comenius University in Bratislava and later pursued mathematical research at the Slovak Academy of Sciences. In his youth, he witnessed persecution by the communist regime within his family and close circle, which shaped his anti-communist stance. He actively participated in the activities of the underground church and in preparations for the Candle Manifestation. As a representative of Catholic dissent, he was invited to join the emerging movement "Public Against Violence".
František Mikloško remained in top politics even after the revolution. From 1990 to 1992, he served as deputy chairman of the Slovak National Council, and later as a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic (from 1992 to 2008 he was a member of the Christian Democratic Movement). He ran twice for the office of President of the Slovak Republic.
