St. John Nepomuk Organ Cycle 5/26: Ondřej Balcar - Double Bass

The double bass is not typically a solo instrument, but in the hands of Ondřej Balcar it reveals a surprisingly wide range of possibilities. The deepest member of the string family will move from its characteristic bass register to violin-like heights, where Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise" will resound, and it will also demonstrate the rich pizzicato sound known mainly from jazz.

Ondřej Balcar is a member of the Czech Philharmonic, devoted to the interpretation of Baroque music and visual art - he is the author of the book "Music in Pictures" and has illustrated other books as well.
