ABCZ, or H as in Havel with Denisa Sediva

An interactive workshop based on the book "ABCZ, or H as in Havel" explores Czech cultural identity. Participants choose their own letter and words they associate with Czechia, then compose and illustrate their own story.

It is an invitation to personal creativity - both literary and visual. Each participant takes home a puzzle piece, their own page of the alphabet, and perhaps an answer to the question: can one's relationship to one's homeland be captured through alphabet entries - and would everyone choose the same letters, or does each person carry their own unique ones in their heart?

About the instructor:
After six years living with her family in Belgium, Denisa Sediva published an illustrated Czech alphabet book, "ABCZ, or H as in Havel," which captures the complex puzzle of Czech cultural identity. She collaborated with graphic designers Adam Machacek and Sebastien Bohenr on the book, which took four years to create. In 2018 it was awarded as the most beautiful Czech textbook. In spring 2023 she released a matching puzzle game, ABCZ. This workshop is based on the book.

Practical information:
The workshop lasts 90 minutes and is suitable for children from age 6 and parents. The price includes instruction and all materials and supplies - participants need not bring anything. These workshops for Designblok were organized by Designers for Children, with a capacity of 15 participants.
