"I Love You, But" has no linear plot. Instead, it presents a rapid sequence of scenes and musical numbers exploring a single theme: the relationship between a man and a woman. The show traces their journey from the first passionate meetings and preparations, through building a relationship, marriage, married life, conflicts with in-laws, problems with children, fatigue from routine, to relationships in old age.
