Coraline and the World Behind the Secret Door
Director Henry Selick, known for "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "James and the Giant Peach," created a stop-motion animation based on the popular novel of the same name. The film became a cult classic for an entire generation.
Eleven-year-old Coraline Jones is a curious and restless girl navigating the early stages of adolescence. She struggles even more after her family moves from a vibrant city to a remote village in the middle of nowhere, where her parents are constantly busy and have little time for her. Her new neighbours - two retired actresses and a former Russian circus performer, Mr. Bobinsky - offer her no entertainment either.
Coraline escapes her boredom by discovering a secret door in one of the rooms. Behind it lies an alternative world that at first glance resembles the real one, but upon closer inspection is completely different - and much better. The alternative parents pay attention to her, and the neighbours have become the most entertaining people under the sun. Coraline even begins to wonder if she might be better off here. But she isn't, and a talking cat keeps trying to tell her so.
