The Square Root of Woman

Two women, one man and one son - a parent-teacher conference that transforms into a confrontation full of emotion and dark humour.

The Square Root of Woman begins as a routine consultation between a parent and a teacher, which gradually escalates into an open clash between two women on the brink of collapse. With each step, the situation shifts and the certainties both brought to the meeting crumble. A play full of twists and sharp dialogue balances on the edge between drama and dramedy - tense moments alternate with situational humour born from the collision of two strong personalities. It touches on female experience, motherhood, partnership roles and the search for balance between family and personal needs. The story of love, loss, loyalty and betrayal gradually blurs the line between perpetrator and victim, forcing the audience to reassess whose side they are on until the very end.

The play is by Canadian dramatist Jordi Mand, whose work has received standing ovations since its Toronto premiere in 2012. In the Czech premiere at Galaxie cultural station, the roles are played by Martina Preissová and Pavla Gajdošíková, with direction by Tomáš Mašín. Performance rights for the theatrical adaptation in the Czech Republic are represented by Aura - Pont s. r. o., Veslařský ostrov 62, 147 00 Praha 4.
