Architecture Day: Opava - Havel 90
Petr Bezruč Library in Opava, Opava
A multimedia programme of film screening, dramatic reading, and trivia quiz marking the 90th birthday of Václav Havel, featuring students from the Church Conservatory of the German Order in Opava. The Petra Bezruč Library joins the celebration of the first post-communist president's anniversary with a three-part programme.
The animated film "Hollywood Life Story" traces Havel's journey from his artistic beginnings through years of opposition to the communist regime and his presidency to his work defending human rights. The literary reading "Have You Read Havel?" presents excerpts from "Letters to Olga" performed by students of the Church Conservatory of the German Order under the direction of Ivana Lebedová and Daniel Volný. The programme concludes with an interactive trivia quiz about Havel's life and work.
Václav Havel (1936-2011) was a writer, dramatist, and president of Czechoslovakia, later the Czech Republic. He came from a prominent building family that constructed, for example, the Lucerna Palace and well-known structures in Barrandov. As president, he later influenced the appearance of Prague Castle - during his tenure, architect Bořek Šípek served as chief architect there, and construction was carried out by figures such as Eva Jiřičná and Josef Pleskot. He also left his mark on Lány Castle, where he frequently stayed and worked.
