Lukáš Hejlík Reading - "Love and Body" (Arnošt Lustig)
LiStOVáNí.cz presents a reading from Arnošt Lustig's book "Love and Body" (published by Mladá fronta), created as part of the AL100 project - marking the 100th birthday Arnošt Lustig did not live to see.
In one of his final works, Lustig returned to themes that run through his entire body of work - the incomprehensibility of the Nazi ideology of Jewish extermination on one hand, and love of life and physicality on the other. The main characters, Gabriela Lágusová and Josef Reinisch, experience a forbidden love in the Theresienstadt ghetto. Transport could arrive any day; they find solace only in each other and speak things they might never have said under different circumstances. The result is a story full of declarations of love and essayistic parables about the meaning of life.
Performing: Bára Jánová (alt. Daniela Šišková) and Lukáš Hejlík.
