A Suitable Hiding Place
DOX Centrum současného umění, Prague
Family art workshop accompanying the exhibition Jiří Petrbok: Patient's Diary.
Jiří Petrbok's exhibition focuses on the theme of self-portraiture — but not merely images of faces. As the title suggests, these are records of a person grappling with the world around them and with themselves: images of pain and grotesque, anxiety and humor, fragility and vulgarity. A visual diary of a patient keeping their own record, so as not to become merely a case.
Masks and costumes are recurring motifs in Petrbok's paintings — shelters that simultaneously reveal much. The workshop builds on this motif: the family (self-)portrait will respect your willingness to show yourself or appropriately hide.
