Architecture Day: Litoměřice - TIMO

A guided tour of the Litoměřice textile factory Timo with architect Šimon Jiráček.

Czech textile production reached its peak in the 1980s - the Liberec, Karlovy Vary, South Bohemian and Ústí regions were the industry's main centres. In 1989 alone, over 200,000 people worked in the textile industry, a figure that exceeded the current number of employees in the automotive sector. After the borders opened in the 1990s, Czech textile mills faced competition from foreign fast fashion, and many of them disappeared.

The tour will explore the fate of Timo, one of Europe's largest textile manufacturers specializing in women's underwear. Participants will learn about its history, architectural development and the current operations of this family business, which has survived dramatic changes and has been operating for over fifty years.
