Pavel Zlámal & PQ

Pavel Zlámal & PQ is a progressive jazz ensemble that emerged from the Brno Janáček Academy of Performing Arts. The group's distinctive original repertoire and energetic interpretation are often compared to the influences of The Bad Plus or John Zorn.

In 2018, the quartet released its debut album "Tyče nevyhnutelné" (Championship Music), which earned third place in the "ČRo JAZZ Česká Jazzová sklizeň 2018" poll. The album features compositions by bandleader Pavel Zlámal and belongs to contemporary modern jazz, with elements that demonstrate Zlámal's unorthodox approach to musical creation.

On their second album "Anchors & Hearts", released in late 2020 in collaboration with Ma Records, the group's avant-garde tendencies were given even more space.
