In the Mirror Hall

A studio Rubín, Prague

Comic pop-up concert.

Beauty is magic. An unattainable goal, a drug, power and a curse. A product and capital, a lucky coin of fate and an eternal memento mori. Social media conveys the impression of beauty, consumes it, and losing it means losing a trump card in capitalism's unfair game. Beauty is a privilege. The fact that women are valued far more by their appearance (and often only by it), that attractive people are attributed more positive qualities, get better jobs, and society treats them better in many respects—this is already known. But what is the chance of liberation when it is also known that capitalism will turn every revolt into a new product?

Four women will guide the audience through a comic concert based on Swedish author Liv Strömquist's work—through the jungle of perfect faces on social media, the dark forest of Snow White's murder, and the royal court of Empress Sissi. What is it really like with self-image on Instagram? And why shouldn't women strive to be liked when it is absolutely clear that it actually matters? And isn't something falling apart here?

The production is created in collaboration with Kolonie z.s. and the Embassy of Sweden.
