Boundaries of Fidelity
Kino Atlas, Prague
A documentary film follows the married couple Diana and Tomáš, who have lived together for several years and have two young sons. Infidelity enters their relationship, bringing with it secrets, mistrust, and lies. In the crisis that ensues, both acknowledge their mutual failures, opening space for communication on a different level—exploring deeper motivations and stories from childhood and the wider family. In a certain euphoria from the opened way out of the crisis, they decide to try an open relationship, only to gradually discover that mistrust cannot be shed as easily as it seems.
The film follows their efforts in meticulous detail and with emotional depth, as they try to navigate the situation, not betray their love, and at the same time consider the children, who are necessarily part of everything that unfolds. Beyond that, it portrays the family background from which the protagonists came, and raises questions about whether it is possible to live differently and avoid family traumas that are unreflectively passed down across generations.
The film thus grows into a reflection on whether crisis and infidelity must lead to the breakdown of a relationship, whether love can withstand intimate bonds with other people, and whether one can be a good parent even outside the traditional family.
