Lilly Reich and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Art historian Markéta Čejková lectures on designer Lilly Reich, the long-time collaborator of architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The name of the architect, designer, and last director of the German Bauhaus school is well known to the Czech public - not least thanks to the Tugendhat Villa in Brno. Less visible remains Lilly Reich (1885-1947), with whom Mies van der Rohe collaborated for an entire decade.

The lecture will explore her own work and their joint projects in the context of the era. From the early 20th century, Reich devoted herself not only to furniture but also to textiles and women's clothing, participated in major exhibitions, and was active in the Werkbund, where she was elected to leadership. As one of the few women, she also taught at the Bauhaus.
