Karavana: Four Sisters + Discussion with Tereza Jermanová
The Karavana cycle is created from initiatives of the Madžlis student association in collaboration with the Department of the Middle East at Charles University. Through films about the Middle East, popular introductions, and discussions with guests, it addresses both pleasant and controversial topics, rooted myths, and unconventional perspectives on this region.
Olfa is a Tunisian woman and mother of four daughters. One day, her two oldest daughters disappear, leaving a huge void in the family. Director Kaouther Ben Hania hires professional actresses to replace the missing girls. Four Sisters is an intimate family portrait and a path of rebellion - a story about violence, sisterhood, and reconciliation that questions the very foundations of our society.
The film had its world premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival, where it won the award for best documentary film and three other awards. It was nominated for the European Film Award in the documentary category and for an Oscar in the international films category.
Following the screening, there will be a discussion with Tereza Jermanová.
