Dance in the Gallery: Labyrinth - A Choreographic-Sculptural Triptych
Antenna, totem, glitch and cloud? In the Troja labyrinth, dance disorients the relationships between human bodies and sculptural installations, while simultaneously becoming a site-specific movement research.
The interdisciplinary project Dance in the Gallery: Labyrinth connects movement and visual art in the historic gardens of Troja Castle as part of the Prague City Gallery. Three choreographers and a choreographer entered into dialogue with three sculptors and created site-specific performative situations around specific sculptural objects.
Street dance choreographer Kristián Mens's Ungrounded attracts Stanislav Zábrodský's industrial antenna - a totem of unknown function from early modernity - around which ten hip-hoppers dance a ritual of contact. Hana Polanská and Jakub Choma construct a critical model of a remediated world in Circle With Many Centers, where a ballerina's vertical body gradually snags and collapses into the gestures of a game character caught in a loop and error glitch. Into Claude's sculpture, Tomáš Roubal has deposited thousands of exhausting sculptural gestures; Viktor Černický then asks: but into what cloud is dance stored?
The premiere is preceded by Viktor Černický's workshop from 2 p.m.
