Loners

Seven young people experience events over the course of several days that will radically shape their futures. Petr, a radio presenter at a small Prague station, breaks up with his long-time girlfriend Hanka. Neurotic doctor Ondřej, who has been pursuing the girl with intrusive attention for years, wants to win her for himself. Yet Ondřej's wife Lenka refuses to accept that the father of her children could betray their respectable middle-class life.

The fates of both couples are disrupted by fragile Macedonian barmaid Vesna searching for her lost father in the Czech Republic, cynical manipulator Robert, and devoted marijuana enthusiast Jakub. Contrasting with the destinies of lonely young people who struggle more or less successfully to understand themselves are Hanka's settled parents and a group of Japanese tourists eager to experience a "typical" Czech family. The authors tell the stories of loners in the midst of crowds, who feel helplessly dragged by malicious fate within their economically comfortable lives, in a tragicomic tone.
