Husák's Silence

The longest-serving domestic president, whose life was full of paradoxes and almost unbelievable events. At first glance an unremarkable man with glasses, a bore - and yet a figure who continues to provoke and divide in contemporary Czechoslovak history. He was imprisoned by the regime he himself actively represented, his wife was a theatre director, he wrote a threatening "liebesbrief" to Gott, and today a Prague tunnel and an entire generation of children bear his name.
