Lanzmann Days in Prague

PROSTOR Publishers, the French Institute in Prague, and the Jewish Museum in Prague present an international film and discussion festival marking the centenary of French filmmaker, writer, and intellectual Claude Lanzmann. The programme features screenings of his films and discussions with experts on Lanzmann's cinematic and literary work.

Guests:

Laura Koeppel - French film producer who began collaborating with Lanzmann in 2001. After the premiere of Sobibor, 14 October 1943, 4 p.m., he asked her to help prepare discussions for its screenings in French cinemas. She later managed his film catalogue and oversaw the release of DVD editions of his works in France and abroad. She served as assistant director on The Last of the Unjust and contributed to other late works by Lanzmann.

Juliette Simont - Philosopher and leading expert on Jean-Paul Sartre's work. She worked at the Free University of Brussels and for over fifteen years served as Lanzmann's deputy in the editorship of Les Temps Modernes. She collaborated with him on his memoir Patagonian Hare, which was largely created through oral narrative that Simont recorded and edited. Author of Jean-Paul Sartre: Half a Century of Freedom (De Boeck, 2015), editor of the collection Claude Lanzmann, Visionary of the Mid-Century (Gallimard, 2017).

Jan Machonin - Russianist, poet, and translator. Author of poetry collections Dogs in Davos (2003) and Slow Notebook (2024). He translates from Russian and French, including works by Varlam Shalamov, Agota Kristof, and Nikolai Leskov, as well as poetry by Jan Satunovsky, Igor Kholin, and Alexander Makarov-Krotkov.
