Rock for People has been delivering world-class experiences since 1995 and is organised by Ameba Production. This isn't local patriotism on the part of the organisers. In 2025, Rock for People celebrated its thirtieth anniversary headlined by Linkin Park, Slipknot, Guns N' Roses, Sex Pistols and Avenged Sevenfold, for the first time as a five-day festival, and a record fifty thousand people attended.

Park 360 is a former military airfield just outside the centre that holds up to fifty thousand people. The space itself accounts for half the atmosphere.

Few Czech festivals have such a distinctive home. The events transform a former military airfield into a huge cultural space. The vast airfield surface means room for several stages, campsites and a moment of calm between concerts without having to elbow your way through the crowd. Park 360 is a flexible multi-purpose space with a capacity of up to fifty thousand music, theatre and sports fans. That it's more than just a festival field is confirmed by the programme outside the main season: alongside rock, hip hop also comes here, because Hip Hop Kemp festival is regularly held at Park 360.

Logistics is another thing Hradec plays to its advantage. The venue is roughly two kilometres from the city centre. That's close enough that after a concert you don't have to deal with an hour-long trek home. During the festival, a free special shuttle service runs between Park 360 and the centre of Hradec at regular intervals. Car, train, bus or bike - take your pick. Biffy Clyro and a name nobody can explain

Scottish trio Biffy Clyro is exactly the type of band people travel to these festivals for. And they come with a story about the origin of their name that even the band members themselves can't agree on.

When we talk about big international names in modern rock, this group is among them. Biffy Clyro are a Scottish rock band founded in Kilmarnock in 1995, consisting of Simon Neil and twins James and Ben Johnston. The best thing about them isn't the discography, but the story behind the name. Nobody really knows what it means, and the best part is that they don't either. The band has never revealed where the name came from, and Simon Neil called it a "stupid name" that was embarrassing to explain. In interviews they therefore make up how they came up with it, because they're bored of answering the same question over and over again.

There's a whole collection of versions. According to one it was an Ayr United footballer, according to another a Finnish footballer, another time an acronym for "Big Imagination For Feeling Young 'Cos Life Yearns Real Optimism", or even a Scotsman who built his own rocket. The more realistic version sounds almost more absurd: as kids in Ayr they were inventing imaginary Cliff Richard merchandise including a pen, they would have called them Cliffy Biros, and that somehow morphed into Biffy Clyro. Behind that humour, though, is music that can really hit hard, heavily marked by early influences. Critics praised the dark style and Nirvana-esque songs on their debut, with Neil himself naming Nirvana as the band that made him want to make music. The breakthrough then came with their fourth record. With the album Puzzle in 2007 they significantly expanded their fanbase, the record climbed to number 2 on the UK albums chart and received platinum certification. Hradec doesn't live by just one festival week. In the centre there's a four-time Theatre of the Year, its own philharmonic and a puppet theatre of European renown.

When the big open air isn't on, the focus shifts to the city. Klicperovo divadlo is a municipal theatre named after playwright Václav Kliment Klicpera, has won the Theatre of the Year title four times and organises the festivals Čekání na Václava and REGIONY. It's not a small chamber stage tucked away in the attic of a single hall. The theatre has four stages, from the main one with four hundred seats to the chamber stage V podkroví and Studio Beseda. A traditional draw is also the REGIONY festival, when the programme moves outside and combines drama with the puppet theatre Divadlo Drak, an internationally acclaimed Hradec institution. As part of the REGIONY festival, performances take place on the main stage of Klicperovo divadlo as well as under a canopy and in the labyrinth of Divadlo Drak.

The second pillar is music outside the rock line. Filharmonie Hradec Králové runs its own series and ventures into unconventional projects. For the 800th anniversary of the city's founding, it prepared a tribute to singer Zuzana Navarová together with Klicperovo divadlo and the group RAZAM.
