About

Yard Act are a British post-punk band from Leeds, formed in 2019 around vocalist James Smith and bassist Ryan Needham. Their debut album The Overload (2022) earned a Mercury Prize nomination and made their name with sardonic spoken-word lyrics over groovy basslines. The follow-up Where's My Utopia? (2024), co-produced by Gorillaz's Remi Kabaka Jr., broadened their sound with Afrobeat, film-score and electronic influences, and in 2026 the band released their third album, You're Gonna Need A Little Music, recorded live in their own studio with producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen.
