Wolfgang Borchert was a German writer and playwright, born in 1921 in Hamburg. He is best known for his play Draußen vor der Tür (The Man Outside) and a collection of short stories reflecting the trauma of his war-scarred generation. He died in 1947 at the age of just 26.
