Wings of Desire (German: Der Himmel über Berlin) is a 1987 German fantasy film written and directed by Wim Wenders. It follows two invisible angels who wander through a divided Berlin, listening to the thoughts of its inhabitants and offering silent comfort. When angel Damiel (Bruno Ganz) falls in love with a trapeze artist, he chooses to give up his immortality. The film won Best Director at Cannes and was shot in a blend of black-and-white and colour by cinematographer Henri Alekan.
