About

Tomáš Brauner (born 1978 in Prague) is one of the most prominent Czech conductors of his generation. He studied oboe and conducting at the Prague State Conservatory, graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts (HAMU), and undertook further studies at the Universität für Musik in Vienna. In 2010 he won the Dimitris Mitropoulos International Conducting Competition in Athens. After chief conductor posts in Pilsen and Zlín, he led the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK from 2020 to 2025, and from the 2024/2025 season he serves as chief conductor of the Opera of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava.

    Brauner prepared a new production of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin at the Opera of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava; the premiere took place on March 6, 2026.

    From the 2025/2026 season, Tomáš Netopil replaced Brauner as chief conductor of the Prague Symphony Orchestra.

  • 2024-09

    Brauner took up the position of chief conductor of the Opera of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava; the opening concert was Summer Gala 2024.

  • 2024-01

    With FOK, he undertook a tour to Japan and South Korea as part of the Year of Czech Music.

  • 2023-09

    It was announced that Tomáš Netopil will replace Brauner as chief conductor of FOK from the 2025/2026 season.
