Tom Hanks (born July 9, 1956, in Concord, California) is an American actor, producer, and screenwriter whose films have grossed over $11.7 billion worldwide. He became only the second actor in history - after Spencer Tracy - to win the Academy Award for Best Actor in consecutive years, for Philadelphia (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994). Beyond acting, he has produced major WWII projects including Band of Brothers and Masters of the Air.
On the History Channel, the twenty-part documentary series World War II with Tom Hanks premiered on May 25, 2026, which Hanks hosts and produces; the series airs in 200 countries in 40 languages.
Pixar released the film Toy Story 5 on June 19, 2026, in which Hanks once again voices the cowboy Woody.
Filming of the sequel Greyhound 2 began in Australia; Hanks returns as Captain Krause and wrote the screenplay for the film.
