Tom Hanks (born July 9, 1956, in Concord, California) is an American actor, producer, and screenwriter whose films have grossed over $11.7 billion worldwide. He became only the second actor in history - after Spencer Tracy - to win the Academy Award for Best Actor in consecutive years, for Philadelphia (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994). Beyond acting, he has produced major WWII projects including Band of Brothers and Masters of the Air.
