Timothy Spall (born 27 February 1957, London) is an English actor whose career spans theatre, television and film over more than four decades. He is best known for six collaborations with director Mike Leigh - culminating in Mr. Turner (2014), which earned him the Best Actor prize at Cannes - and for playing Peter Pettigrew across five Harry Potter films. His television work has brought him both a BAFTA TV Award and an International Emmy for his lead role in the true-crime drama The Sixth Commandment (2023).
The second series of the detective comedy Death Valley began on BBC One, in which Spall plays the lead role - the first series premiered in May 2025 and the second began in May 2026.
In the film adaptation of Hamlet with Riz Ahmed in the title role, Spall played the role of Polonius; the film had its American premiere on April 10, 2026.
The film Goodbye June (directed by Kate Winslet) was released on Netflix, in which Spall plays the father of the Bernie family alongside Helen Mirren.
At the 52nd International Emmy Awards ceremony in New York, Spall won the award for Best Actor for his role as Peter Farquhar in the series The Sixth Commandment.
At the BAFTA TV Awards 2024, Spall won in the category of Best Actor in a Leading Role, defeating Brian Cox, Dominic West and Steve Coogan, and won the award for The Sixth Commandment.
