Tiësto, born Tijs Michiel Verwest, is a Dutch DJ and producer who rose to fame as one of the defining figures of trance music in the late 1990s and 2000s. Over time he shifted toward mainstream electronic pop. He performed at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Athens Olympics - a milestone for electronic music.
