The Great Old Ones are a French post-black metal band from Bordeaux, founded in 2009 by guitarist and vocalist Benjamin Guerry. Every album they have made is a concept record rooted in a specific H. P. Lovecraft text, from the debut Al Azif (2012) through to Kadath (2025). Signed to Season of Mist since 2016, they have built a devoted following across Europe through relentless touring and five increasingly ambitious studio albums.
The band released on January 24, 2025 on Season of Mist their fifth studio album Kadath, inspired by Lovecraft's novella The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath.
The Great Old Ones completed a spring European tour with Czech band Cult of Fire and Italian Caronte - 19 concerts in 11 countries from March 26 to April 13, 2025.
In November 2024, the band released the single In the Mouth of Madness as a preview of the album Kadath.
In October 2024, the single Me, the Dreamer was released, the first preview of the upcoming album Kadath.
The album Kadath was named by reviewers as one of the best extreme metal albums of 2025, with the 15-minute instrumental composition Leng receiving special praise.
