The Devil's Trade is the project of Budapest-based musician Dávid Makó, who launched it in 2014 as a solo vehicle sitting at the crossroads of dark folk, dark Americana, and Hungarian folk tradition. Previously known from the doom/sludge metal bands Stereochrist and HAW, Makó builds his sound around acoustic guitar or banjo and an insistent baritone - in recent years joined by drummer Gáspár Binder and producer Márton Szabó. The project has moved through Golden Antenna Records and Season of Mist, signing to Germany's Pelagic Records in 2025. Over a decade, he has released five studio albums and performed at Hellfest 2024 and on a European tour with Alcest.
The Devil's Trade released an official live video for the title track of the album Nincs Szennyezetlen Szép, filmed at the release concert at Budapest's Dürer Kert in January 2026.
The fifth studio album Nincs Szennyezetlen Szép was released on November 7, 2025 on Pelagic Records; it is Makóa's darkest and densest recording, dedicated to his deceased mother.
The first single from the album Nincs Szennyezetlen Szép was the track Weltschmerz, released in August 2025.
The Devil's Trade performed at the French festival Hellfest 2024 in Clisson.
The fourth album Vidékek vannak idebenn was released on July 14, 2023 on Season of Mist; for the first time, Makóa was accompanied by drummer Gáspár Binder.
