🎬 The Beggar's Opera

About

The Beggar's Opera is based on John Gay's 1728 play, which Václav Havel reworked into his own version in 1972. Banned by the communist regime, it circulated only in secret performances until its official premiere in 1990. Jiří Menzel staged it at Prague's Činoherní klub and a year later directed a film adaptation with much of the original cast.
