A jazz evening at Jazz Dock with Japanese trumpeter Takuya Kuroda, the band MaBaSo, and the duo of Simona Hulejová and Robin Galia.
Takuya Kuroda (b. 1980, Ashiya, Japan) is a Brooklyn-based trumpeter and composer who weaves post-bop together with soul, funk, and hip-hop. He studied at Berklee College of Music and The New School in New York, where he formed a lasting partnership with vocalist José James. His Blue Note debut Rising Son (2014) established him as a leading voice in contemporary jazz-groove; he has since released six more studio albums, most recently Everyday (PPK Records, 2025).
Kuroda released new singles "Strike" and "Roy's mood" (2026), hinting at work on a new project.
On February 28, 2025, his eighth studio album Everyday was released on the PPK Records label.
Before the album's release, he shared a music video for the single "Car 16 15 A", inspired by experiences from Japanese tours.
A review in All About Jazz praised the album Everyday for blending jazz, funk, hip-hop, and neo-soul.
PopMatters called the seventh album Midnight Crisp (2022) a "future classic" of the genre.
