Swing Melody

About

Swing Melody is a professional Czech jazz orchestra from Ostrov, founded around 2010-2011 by students of the local music school (ZUŠ). Led by trumpeter, vocalist and arranger Jan Veverka - a graduate of the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague - the ensemble specialises in 1930s-40s swing, covering American standards by Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Count Basie alongside Czech songs from the repertoires of R. A. Dvorský, Oldřich Nový and the Karel Vlach Orchestra. Members play exclusively on period instruments and original sheet music from the era.
