Serhiy Kalantay (born 31 May 1964, Kyiv) is a Ukrainian-German stage and screen actor, and a leading member of the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theatre in Kyiv since 2016. He trained at the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University (graduating 1985), then built a parallel career in Munich theatres and appeared in over 20 film and TV productions across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He gained international recognition for his role in the British short film Rock, Paper, Scissors (2024), which won the BAFTA Award for Best British Short Film in February 2025. He was named People's Artist of Ukraine in 2024.
Since September 2026, Kalantai has been leading a new course in acting for theatre and film at KNUTKiT as an associate professor of the Department of Acting Art and Drama Directing.
As part of KNUTKiT's 2026 admission campaign, Kalantai announced that from September 2026 he will be leading a new bachelor's and master's course in acting for theatre and film.
The British short film Rock, Paper, Scissors, in which Kalantai played the role of a surgeon, won the BAFTA Award for Best British Short Film on 16 February 2025.
In 2024, Serhiyi Kalantai was awarded the title of People's Artist of Ukraine.
Since 2023, Kalantai has been a member of the board of directors of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine.
