Roman Polák (born 1957 in Nové Mesto nad Váhom) is a Slovak theatre and television director, one of the most prominent figures in Central European drama. He studied direction at the Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU) in Bratislava and built his career from the State Theatre Košice and the SNP Theatre in Martin to Bratislava's Astorka ensemble and the Slovak National Theatre, whose drama company he headed twice. He has worked regularly with Czech stages in Prague and Brno, and has directed in Chicago, Paris and Budapest.
In November 2025, Polak's production of the grotesque farce We Lost Stalin, about the struggle for power after Stalin's death, premiered at the Bolka Polívka Theatre in Brno.
At the Bratislava Arena Theatre, Polak presented his own play Scottish Play - a free variation on Shakespeare's Macbeth focused on the theme of power and cruelty.
The Slovak president awarded Roman Polak the state decoration Pribina Cross 1st Class.
In the Divadelní noviny survey Production of the Year 2024, Polak nominated his own Brno production Fire and Ashes from the Bolka Polívka Theatre.
