Robin Gayle Wright (born April 8, 1966, in Dallas, Texas) is an American actress and director. She rose to global fame with roles as Jenny in Forrest Gump (1994) and Buttercup in The Princess Bride (1987), but the defining chapter of her career came with Claire Underwood in Netflix's House of Cards - in 2014 she became the first actress to win a Golden Globe for a streaming-only series. In recent years she has stepped firmly behind the camera: her Prime Video miniseries The Girlfriend (2025), which she directed and starred in, surpassed 25 million views and earned her a Satellite Award and a Gracie Award for directing.
Wright received the Gracie Award for Best Director of a Dramatic Miniseries for the series The Girlfriend on Prime Video.
At the Satellite Awards ceremony in March 2026, Wright received the award for Best Actress in a Miniseries for The Girlfriend - her second Satellite Award overall.
At the 83rd Golden Globe Awards ceremony (January 11, 2026), Wright was nominated for her role in The Girlfriend in the category of Best Actress in a Limited Series.
The miniseries The Girlfriend, which Wright directed and starred in, premiered on Prime Video on September 10, 2025.
Wright confirmed in an interview with The Sunday Times that she moved to the United Kingdom, where she has been living and working in recent years.
