Jaws
The summer cinema screens a classic thriller about a massive great white shark terrorizing a seaside town. A gripping story of three men embarking on a dangerous mission.
Robert Archibald Shaw (9 August 1927 - 28 August 1978) was an English actor, novelist, and playwright who built his craft on the Shakespearean stage before breaking through in Hollywood. He earned an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Henry VIII in A Man for All Seasons (1966), and reached global fame as the shark hunter Quint in Spielberg's Jaws (1975). A serious writer alongside his acting career, he won the 1962 Hawthornden Prize for his novel The Sun Doctor.
In May 2025, a biography of Robert Shaw was published by his nephew Christopher Shaw Myers with the title Robert Shaw: An Actor's Life on the Set of JAWS and Beyond, released on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Jaws.
A review of the biography from July 2025 praised Shaw's portrayal of Quint as one of the most colorful characters in film history.
On the 50th anniversary of Jaws, several media outlets recalled that Shaw was a key co-author of the famous USS Indianapolis monologue.
