Robert Archibald Shaw (9 August 1927 - 28 August 1978) was an English actor, novelist, and playwright who built his craft on the Shakespearean stage before breaking through in Hollywood. He earned an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Henry VIII in A Man for All Seasons (1966), and reached global fame as the shark hunter Quint in Spielberg's Jaws (1975). A serious writer alongside his acting career, he won the 1962 Hawthornden Prize for his novel The Sun Doctor.
