Robert Ryan was an American actor best known for his work in film noir and westerns. In Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch (1969) he played Deke Thornton, a former outlaw hired to hunt down his old gang. His ability to project cold, morally ambiguous characters made him one of the most distinctive screen presences of his era.
