Sir Ridley Scott (born 30 November 1937 in South Shields) is an English film director and producer with a career spanning more than fifty years. He made his name with genre-defining works including Alien (1979), Blade Runner (1982), Gladiator (2000) and The Martian (2015). His films have grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide, and in 2024 King Charles III appointed him Knight Grand Cross.
