Raoul Coutard (1924-2016) was a French cinematographer closely associated with the French New Wave. His long collaboration with Jean-Luc Godard produced films including À bout de souffle and Le Mépris (1963). He was known for his use of natural light and handheld camera work, which helped define the visual language of the movement.
