Ramón Montoya

About

Ramón Montoya (1879–1949) was a Spanish flamenco guitarist widely regarded as the father of modern flamenco solo guitar. He was the first to systematically develop concert techniques such as rasgueado and picado, elevating the guitar from a vocal accompaniment to an independent solo instrument. His recordings from the early 20th century remain cornerstones of the flamenco tradition.
