Cutting It Short
A classic Czech comedy screening at the summer cinema, featuring the vivacious Maryška, her husband Francin, and his eccentric brother Pepin as they embark on increasingly absurd adventures.
Postřižiny (Cutting It Short, 1980) is a Czechoslovak comedy directed by Jiří Menzel, based on the novel by Bohumil Hrabal. Set in a small-town brewery during the First Republic era, it follows the brewery manager Francin, his spirited wife Maryška, and his eccentric brother Pepin. The film was the most-attended Czech film of 1981 and competed at the Venice Film Festival, where it received a special jury commendation. It is now regarded as a classic of Czech cinema, available on Netflix and KVIFF.TV.
The Betterlife.cz server published an article about the behind-the-scenes of the filming of Postřižiny, including a story about saving a brewery in Dalešice.
The film was screened as part of Czech Film Wednesday at the Zentralkino cinema in Dresden with German subtitles.
The Russian editorial office of Radio Prague International recalled the film on the occasion of more than forty years since its creation.
