About

Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais (1732–1799) was a French playwright, watchmaker, and diplomat. He is best known for his Figaro trilogy, the first part of which, Le Barbier de Séville (1775), inspired operas by Rossini and Mozart (Le nozze di Figaro). His comedies are noted for their sharp satire of social inequality under the ancien régime.
