Petr Modlitba (born 1968 in Brno) is a Czech painter and illustrator who specialises in paleoart - scientifically grounded reconstructions of prehistoric life. He works mainly in oil and gouache, consciously following in the tradition of Zdeněk Burián. The anthropologist Jan Jelínek drew him into scientific painting in 2001, after which he began collaborating with researchers at Masaryk University, Charles University and the Moravian Museum. His work has been shown in the Czech Republic as well as in France and the Netherlands.

Paleoart – The Boundary Between Science and Art

A paleoart exhibition at the Moravian Land Museum showcases Czech and Slovak artists specializing in scientific reconstruction of prehistoric creatures and landscapes. See paintings and models of dinosaurs, mammoths, and ancient ecosystems, with an optional family workshop led by artist Petr Modlitba.
