Paul Henreid

About

Paul Henreid (January 10, 1908, Trieste - March 29, 1992, Santa Monica) was an Austrian-American actor, director, and producer who trained under Max Reinhardt in Vienna before emigrating to Britain in 1935 and later to the United States. He rose to international fame in 1942 with two films released the same year: as resistance leader Victor Laszlo in Casablanca and as the romantic lead opposite Bette Davis in Now, Voyager. Blacklisted in the 1950s for opposing McCarthyism, he rebuilt his career as a television director - helming over eighty episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents - and was one of the rare Hollywood figures to earn two stars on the Walk of Fame.
