Paul Gauguin (1848–1903) was a French Post-Impressionist painter known for his bold use of colour and flat, symbolic forms. He spent much of his later life in Tahiti and French Polynesia, where he created his most celebrated works depicting local life and landscape. His art had a profound influence on the development of modern painting.
