Patrick Swayze (1952-2009) was an American actor, dancer and singer-songwriter from Houston, Texas, who rose to global fame as dance instructor Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing (1987) - a film made for $5 million that went on to gross over $214 million worldwide. He cemented his stardom with the supernatural romance Ghost (1990), the highest-grossing film of that year, and the action hit Point Break (1991). He received three Golden Globe nominations across his career and earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1997, before dying of pancreatic cancer in September 2009 at age 57.
Widow Lisa Niemi Swayze published a memorial post on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the actor's death in collaboration with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
