Obscura is a German technical death metal band from Landshut, founded in 2002 by guitarist and vocalist Steffen Kummerer. Their music weaves technical precision with progressive and melodic elements, while lyrics draw on German philosophy and cosmology. The 2009 album Cosmogenesis is widely regarded as a landmark of the genre; their seventh record A Sonication (Nuclear Blast, February 2025) is the second chapter of an ongoing trilogy, supported by an extensive world tour.
In January 2026, Obscura announced a four-week Asian tour 'The Sun Eater // Asia 2026', which will cover India, Japan, China, South Korea, Armenia, Georgia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, Mongolia and the United Arab Emirates.
In December 2025, the band announced a return to the USA with the 'Stardust' tour featuring 23 concerts, as part of the ongoing A Sonication World Tour.
In October 2025, Obscura announced a return to Japan with a five-part tour 'The Sun Eater', featuring Fallujah and Dvrk as support bands.
In June 2025, the band announced the third leg of the A Sonication World Tour, covering Eastern and Southern Europe in September and October 2025, with support bands Suicidal Angels, Hideous Divinity and Sadist.
In February 2025, the seventh studio album A Sonication was released on Nuclear Blast; the album was recorded at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg and produced by Fredrik Nordström together with Steffen Kummerer.
The 19th edition of the Březovská Metalová Noc festival featuring an international line-up of death metal, black metal, and thrash bands from Germany, France, Turkey, Italy, and Poland.
The touring metal festival Shred Fest arrives in Europe with bands OBSCURA, PESTILENCE, CRYPTIC SHIFT, THUS, and DVRK. Barrák in Ostrava is the sole Czechoslovak stop among 39 scheduled dates.
